I wanted to post links to some of the organizations I meantioned the other night.  Some of these are non-profit and some are companies that I believe in…as well as some databases.  Enjoy!

Final Project

I loved working on our final projects.  It was amazing to be able to write/present on the topicthat is nearest and dearest to us.  I know the timing was perfect for me as it allowed me to reconnect with the reasons why I was motivated to start Truth.

Beyond that, going through the exercises we learned in class was unbelievably helpful.  I’ve been using asset mapping for several projects lately, and it’s so helpful/inspiring to see how many resources are really available to me.  It’s a relief to learn tools in the classroom that we can apply to our lives…this class was ideal for that reason.

Great work on your presentations!   Stay in touch.

Truth Skincare Solutions Launch

I offically launched my company/website yesterday!  The response has been amazing…please check it out!

Working on our project has been overwhelming and invigorating.  I used to think that reforming the skincare industry was a pipe dream…I always wanted to attempt it but thought it would only go as far as my own company.  But now I see there is really opportunity in being the first distributor to demand suppliers meet certain standards.

We’ve had so many amazing speakers in our class.  They dare to attempt what seems impossible and their passion and dedication makes us believe they will be successful.  It’s inspiring to hear about their causes and, personally, makes me think I really can fundamentally change the industry.

President Obama’s Listening Tour

I think President Obama’s Listening Tour is a fantastic idea.  People in different communities have different needs and Obama is showing he is committed to learning more about local initiatives.

If you’d like to attend an event, here is the Colorado link!

Social Return on Investment

The speaker last week wonderful!  He was effective and relevant.

I was thinking a lot about his use of statistics and facts and our subsequent class discussion on measuring social return on investment.  As a socially-minded person, I used to get very frustrated when people “needed” some kind of factual justification for my position on issues.  I remember giving my first presentation as an MBA student on healthcare reform:  Specifically, universal healthcare, of which I am a supporter.

I remember feeling frustrated as my fellow classmates demanded numerical support for my position on the issue.  I wanted people to understand that it is simply more humane to provide healthcare for all members of society and that that should be reason enough.  While this used to make me upset, I am thankful for the experience because now I understand how to communicate social causes more effectively to economically-minded people.  Fortunately, I’ve found that most causes that are good for society are also good for society’s wallets!

Great Quote

I recently came across this Hillary Clinton quote and loved it.

“There cannot be true democracy unless women’s voices are heard. There cannot be true democracy unless women are given the opportunity to take responsibility for their own lives. There cannot be true democracy unless all citizens are able to participate fully in the lives of their country.”  Hillary Clinton

What is an Asset?

Well, I will admit that, after an adult life filled with business education, it’s very difficult to wrap my head around this new concept of what an asset is.  In my studies, assets have always been traditional in nature; financial/employee-related, etc.  I’ve always thought of assets as setting the boundaries in which  a business had to operate.

However, I am slowly starting to retrain my brain to see assets as something as extensive as an entrepreneur can imagine.  There are ways to make what is around us, work for us.  Now, I can see “assets” as being everything from my social network to my passion for the skincare industry.  I can see that asset-mapping will be an invaluable tool, long-run.  It’s very exciting!
